Google Pixel 9 Pro: ONE MINUTE REVIEW
I’ve been wanting a phone, and now I have it the Google Pixel 9 Pro. I simply neglected to ask Google. Google is the only business providing all of its top features on a smaller phone with the new Pixel 9 Pro. You can purchase a Galaxy S24 or iPhone 15 Pro, but if you want the best, you’ll have to fork over more cash and settle for the largest smartphones produced by Samsung and Apple. Unlike Google’s most recent Pro Pixel, though.
Great camera phones are something I’m very fond of, but they’re all very large. Purchasing an iPhone 15 Pro Max or a Galaxy S24 Ultra is required if you want the best iPhone or Galaxy camera. Less than that would be giving in. If you go with the iPhone 15 Pro, the zoom lens is not as strong. Selecting a less expensive Galaxy results in everything being less powerful.
The camera specifications of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are identical. No adjustments or concessions are made. The reason this is such a significant problem is because, as phones got bigger over time, manufacturers stopped up trying to make the smaller phones perform on par with the larger models. The Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with identical sensors measuring the same number of megapixels and identical lenses with the same aperture, including a 5x telephoto lens.
Key Takeaways
- Super-bright display is also razor sharp
- Cool new design evolves the camera bar
- Lot of AI features will get to know you
- Screenshots sounds useful, but will take some adjustment
- Same 5x zoom lens as the Pixel 9 Pro XL
- AI offers Improvements to video zoom and night video
- Tons of RAM should help with AI features today and to come
- Fastest battery charging on a Pixel, but no charger in the box
Google Pixel 9 Pro: OVERVIEW
Seven years of Android OS upgrades, including security fixes and new Pixel features, are planned for the Google Pixel 9 Pro. The small hardware improvement on the Pixel 9 Pro, which comes with the same seven-year guarantee as the Pixel 9, may be significant in the long run if you want to keep your phone for that long.
Description
With all the Pro-level features camera, RAM, and processing power in a more manageable package, the Google Pixel 9 Pro is an amazing choice for anyone looking for a more portable phone without compromising performance. The Pixel 9 Pro sets a good standard for compact flagship phones, even though the AI functions aren't always dependable.Positives
- Same zoom lens as the Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Cool new design is more durable than before
- Lots of RAM should help over the seven years of updates
Negatives
- Some AI features will require more trust than ever before
- No charger in the box to support the faster charging
- Kind of pricey, maybe wait for a deal
Memory within the Pixel 9 Pro is 16GB, whereas that of the Pixel 9 is only 12GB. Whichever Pixel you select, it is an incredible amount of RAM for a mobile smartphone. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is Samsung’s most powerful phone, only has 12GB of RAM. Until the Pixel 9 Pro is out, you will need to purchase a gaming phone like the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro to obtain 16GB or more up to 24GB in the Asus phone.
I assume that all of the RAM is for future use, not for today. I’m not sure if the Pixel 8 and other current Pixel phones will withstand the seven years of updates that Google is claiming. Although Google is unable to create a chipset that is future-proof, it can ensure that the phone will have enough headroom for any AI vehicles that are parked in the Pixel garage by adding more RAM than is required at launch.

Considering everything, the Pixel 9 Pro is the most intriguing Pixel phone I’ve seen in a long time, and I haven’t even discussed the new design (for more on the new style, see my hands-on of the Pixel 9 Pro XL). Like many other smaller phones, it’s pleasantly smaller without sacrificing features. Today, it has interesting AI tools and camera functions, and it has the proper hardware to stay current as the future develops. More features are on the horizon.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: DESIGN & DISPLAY
With the Google Pixel 9 Pro display, Google is taking no chances. This answer will answer your question about how the Pixel differs from previous Samsung and Apple Pro phones. In terms of smartphone screens, Google is winning. In addition to having a better resolution, the Pixel 9 Pro’s so-called Super Actua display is brighter than those of rival devices from Apple and Samsung. It’s quite visually appealing and legible in any kind of illumination.

If you’re selecting between the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, the 9 Pro doesn’t have as many pixels overall, but it packs those pixels closer for a higher pixel density, making it somewhat more sharp. The displays on both Pro Pixel variants are denser in pixels than those of any current iPhone.
After viewing the early Google preview photos and rumors, I wasn’t convinced about the Pixel 9 Pro’s appearance. Since the release of the Pixel 6, I have been a big fan of the Pixel camera bar. The Pixel 6a’s multicolored appearance was particularly appealing to me, but Google has recently tended to stick to black and white. That’s okay though, because the Pixel 9 Pro has a beautiful appearance and is available in several really stylish, subtly loud hues.
Ever since I first set eyes on the Hazel gray, I’ve been getting fond of it. It’s a pretty nice shade, reminiscent of wet granite rather than ominous clouds. The Rose Quartz color is a nicer shade of blossom pink than the Peony pink featured on the Pixel 9, and the porcelain is a wonderful substitute for a harsh white model. You can also get the Pixel 9 Pro in black Obsidian if you’re bored.
In order to accentuate the colors, Google selects top-notch finishes and materials. On the porcelain and hazel gadgets in particular, the matte glass back exhibits depth. Compared to the Pixel 9’s smooth finish, the polished metal frame has a more elegant appearance that shimmers in the light.
I even enjoy the camera bar, maybe because in a few years it will look quite antiquated. It features bold, almost comical lines and curves that make it unique and highly à la fashion. I enjoy the way it looks, and I’m interested to see how it changes in the upcoming generations.
I’m hoping it doesn’t end up being just another dull phone. Similar to the previous camera bar design, the new camera pill shape is symmetrical and neat, and unlike some Samsung phones with their camera bumps tucked away in corners, the phone didn’t rock when I turned it face up.

Google Pixel 9 Pro: SOFTWARE
Do you enjoy artificial intelligence? I sincerely hope you do, as the Google Pixel 9 Pro is poised to advance artificial intelligence in smartphones to a previously unseen degree. You will converse with the Pixel 9 Pro’s Gemini AI as though it were a human. It will be able to view objects you show it with the camera and respond to inquiries about what you observe. It will be able to respond to inquiries in a natural, conversational manner in addition to organizing and monitoring the contents of your phone.
That’s what Google says, anyway. Some of it, like the Add Me function in the camera, is really cool and practical right away. It functions nicely and I can see using it; I just wish it had been around ten years ago when I was chasing my toddler with a camera. I’ll get to that next.
However, there are several concerning aspects of the new AI functions. You can instruct the AI to take notes while listening to your phone calls. It will address inquiries regarding what was stated and provide a call summary. Although Google claims that using this option will alert your callers, having the phone track and listen to calls feels unnatural. I must thoroughly test this functionality.
Additionally, a brand-new Screenshots app is available only on the Pixel 9 series at least for the time being. If you take a lot of screenshots to aid in your memory of, well, everything, the Pixel 9 Pro will be able to read and comprehend your screenshots thanks to artificial intelligence. Google claims that it will be able to respond to inquiries regarding the items you’ve saved in a conversational, natural way.
Although I find it difficult to see how helpful this could be, I must admit that after using the Pixel 9 Pro for a while, I looked at my other phones and discovered I had a lot more screenshots than I had thought. And not all of them were taken because I mispressed the power and volume buttons at the same time.
Google is offering a year of free access to its 2TB cloud storage Google One AI Premium plan to Pixel 9 Pro buyers. You can utilize Google Gemini Advanced, the, uh, advanced model of Gemini, with the Premium plan. I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning, so I can’t really compare Gemini Advanced to the original Gemini, but I’m pleased with the outcomes I’ve seen thus far.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: CAMERAS
Apple, take note: the 5x zoom lens does not have to be limited to the large phone. A smaller phone shouldn’t have to compromise on features or quality for individuals who like smaller phones. It’s odd that the Google Pixel 9 Pro is not subject to the same limitation as Samsung and Apple, who to differing degrees force you to accept inferior cameras if you want their smaller phones. You receive the same cameras, including the 5x zoom lens, whether you purchase the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL.
I do mean exactly the same cameras when I say that. The optics and sensors are identical. The Pixel 9 Pro XL does not come with a unique form of picture stabilization, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Everybody is the same. The Pixel 9’s ultra-wide and primary cameras are actually the same setup, although the less expensive phone lacks a zoom lens. You must have the zoom if you’re serious about capturing pictures.
I’m not sure if I should use the new Add Me feature on the camera, although it looks really helpful. During our hands-on experience with the Pixel phones, the TechRadar crew tested it out and found that it was able to successfully include our Editor-at-large, Lance Ulanoff, in a photo that I had forgotten to include. Setting up the shot and directing Lance’s position was simple, and the outcome was perfect.
Is it advantageous that the Pixel 9 Pro can produce an immaculate picture of a group shot that was never taken? Though I haven’t made up my mind, I can see this function becoming popular, particularly among recent parents.
Thanks to Google’s AI advancements, the Pixel 9 Pro also has additional video capabilities. With AI, the camera can already take up to 30x magnification photos, or what Google refers it as “Super Res Zoom” photos. The video camera can now zoom in on video recordings by up to 20 times using “Super Res Zoom.”
After the video has been uploaded, Google’s Video Boost function can now analyze dark films twice as quickly if you record at night. Plus, Google claims that the Pixel 9 Pro can produce the finest low-light panoramas of any camera thanks to its enhanced low-light handling.

Google Pixel 9 Pro: PERFORMANCE & BATTERY
Because Pixel phones are designed for Google, not for power, enthusiasts of the brand need not worry about performance and benchmarks. Though Google has given the Pixel 9 Pro some intriguing hardware to keep it up to date with the newest Android software and Pixel feature drops for the next seven years, you won’t be winning benchmark weightlifting competitions with it.
The 16GB of RAM in the Pixel 9 Pro is just astounding for a mobile device. Initially, my laptop had just… Nevermind, it is irrelevant. For starters, 16GB is larger than the capacity of the majority of phones that people are aware of. To outperform the Pixel 9 Pro, you would have to purchase an Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro gaming phone and pay more for RAM.
Why is there so much RAM? Most likely AI. All in all, our testing on computers and smartphones has demonstrated that RAM has a significant impact on AI features. Is it more significant than the quickest Snapdragon processor available? It will take time to find out, but if I purchase a Pixel with the intention of keeping it for the full seven years, I want it to have a lot of RAM.
Google claims that the Pixel 9 Pro would charge more quickly than any other Pixel, but that isn’t a particularly compelling promise. To achieve the maximum charging speed, you’ll need to purchase a 45W charger, although the cost is justified. Since it is likely that most buyers will not already have a charger this fast, Google ought to have provided one with this Pro phone.
Strangely, based on Google’s predictions of charging times, the Pixel 9 Pro XL charges more quickly despite having a larger battery. Although Google claims it charges more quickly, it still has the same 45W charging capacity. Google replies that the screen and “power,” which appears to imply more than just battery capacity, are the only specs that differ between the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. To find out for sure, we’ll need to put these assertions to the test.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: VERDICT
I hope Samsung and Apple take note of the fantastic phone that is the Google Pixel 9 Pro. It is a more compact phone without sacrificing speed, storage, or most importantly camera quality. The Pixel 9 Pro is worth a look if you’ve been hankering after a smaller phone that doesn’t make you feel excluded.
Is it superior to other phones for this amount of money? Although I have to give the phone a full test, it looks good. It’s surprising that Google hasn’t gained more recognition for their amazing Super Actua screens because the display alone is such a great feature.
All people are aware that Google Pixel phones have some of the greatest cameras, and the Pixel 9 Pro has the most advanced camera technology on a Pixel phone to date. Although I am apprehensive about depending on AI to alter photographs, I enjoy the new AI functions. I’m eager to see how AI advances photography while I’m shooting, particularly with regard to panoramas and low-light video capture.
A great deal of confidence will be needed to use the Pixel 9 Pro. I will give the AI access to my screenshots, which include dozens of haphazardly arranged photos, and let it to process them all. I’m going to let it listen to my phone conversations and trust its analysis of what was said. I’m going to talk to this phone just like I would any other. Hopefully, it behaves normally. I don’t know whether I’m ready for my phone to have this much personality.
