DESIGN
Conventional clam-shell computers are what the MacBook Pro and the Galaxy Book4 Ultra share. Both have a high-quality CNC aluminum body that feels luxurious and light. The Galaxy Book4 Ultra is marginally thinner than the MacBook Pro, measuring 0.65 inches versus 0.61 inches for the 14-inch model and 0.66 inches for the more similar 16-inch configuration. Other than that, their external dimensions are almost identical.
Despite being similarly small, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra weighs 4.1 pounds as opposed to the MacBook Pro’s 3.4 and 4.8 pounds, respectively. Both are lightweight enough to be excellent portable workstations for creatives on the road, but the Galaxy Book Ultra 4 is a better option if weight is your first priority. Although it’s apparent in my laptop bag, I personally own a 14-inch MacBook Pro 2023 and don’t find the weight to be a problem for portability.

Both laptops have a good amount of connectivity. Both laptops include the same arrangement of USB-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a microSD card reader, and a combined microphone/audio jack; however, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra has a USB Type-A port that the most recent MacBook Pro does not. Although Thunderbolt 4 connections are included with both laptops, we advise purchasing a Thunderbolt dock in order to keep your workspace organized.

In terms of screen quality, neither the MacBook Pro nor the Galaxy Book4 Ultra are inferior. A beautiful AMOLED display with a 2800×1800 resolution and a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate is one of the features that Samsung’s Galaxy Book4 Ultra boasts over other new laptops on the market. However, among the greatest displays available for creators is found on the MacBook Pro. 600 nits of brightness are available on the MacBook Pro’s Liquid Retina IPS panel, and the M3 MacBook Pro’s 120Hz refresh rate may be activated by turning on ProMotion.
With the exception of the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra, which produces a brightness of 400 nits, both laptops are sufficiently bright for content creation. Samsung’s AMOLED display and Apple’s Liquid Retina Pro panel both have excellent color reproduction.
PERFORMANCE
Currently in its third version, Apple’s own silicon produces one of our favorite laptop CPUs, the M3 processor found in the 2023–2024 MacBook Pro. It functions at blistering speeds because to its ten GPU cores and eight processor cores. Resolving some of the heat-related issues that the M2 CPU was known for, the M3 chipset offers exceptional performance.
The newest Intel Core Ultra processors have been added to Samsung’s premium Galaxy Book series for 2024. Comparing these chips to Intel’s 13th-generation Core processors, there is a noticeable performance increase. A whole new architecture appropriate for AI is also included in this update, along with increased graphics performance and longer battery life. The Galaxy Book4 Ultra, in particular, comes with an Intel Core 7 155H in its base configuration, or an Intel Core Ultra 185H if you want additional power.
With a choice between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 or RTX 4070 discrete GPU, the Samsung Galaxy 4 Book Ultra should pique the interest of anyone searching for a laptop for light gaming or animating operations. You can play AAA games at their highest settings on the RTX 4070, and if you have 32GB of RAM, this laptop is more than capable of handling 3D rendering tasks.

We are optimistic that the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra will offer processing capability comparable to the MacBook Pro, even if we haven’t had a chance to review it. The default LPDDR5X RAM on the Galaxy Book4 Ultra is 16 or 32GB, but the MacBook Pro supports up to 128GB of unified LPDDR5 memory. With greater bulk memory, Apple prevails, but multimedia creators will find the 32GB RAM Galaxy Book4 Ultra to be more than satisfactory.
BATTERY LIFE
Fortunately, if you’re looking for a laptop that will survive your entire workday, the MacBook Pro M3 and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra are both sturdy devices. The Galaxy Book4 Ultra features a 76WHr battery, which makes it more powerful than the M3 MacBook Pro’s 70WHr battery. Laptop CPUs and specialist hardware, however, put in a lot of effort to provide all-day battery life because there’s more to battery life than just battery capacity.
Due to the exceptional efficiency of its Apple Silicon processors, which set them apart from the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, Apple has the advantage in this situation. You’ll almost definitely get more battery life with the MacBook Pro despite the different battery size.
VERDICT
My goal is to see the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra as soon as feasible. I currently own a MacBook Pro M3. I’m eager to see how the Galaxy Book4 Ultra works, especially in creative applications, even if I’ll still use my MacBook Pro as my primary computer. Having said that, I would have to choose the MacBook Pro M3 if I had to choose one right now. This is mostly due to my investment in the Apple ecosystem, which offers great performance, easy portability, and an all-day battery life even for creative applications while on the move.
