COBRA SC400D – Overview
Because of its 4K resolution, the Cobra SC 400D proved to be the best dash cam we tested in terms of sheer visual performance. We also concurred that its video clip had the best overall appearance. Police alerts and other driver reports are provided by the Cobra through its in-house DriveSmarter app, which we found to be user-friendly and responsive.
One small complaint we might have is that the mount can only be rotated forward and backward, not side to side. But the lens’s wide angle almost completely removes the necessity to do so. A sizable adhesive pad for the mount and an extremely powerful magnet for the camera itself hold the Cobra to the windshield.
Naturally, a dash cam with this level of quality and feature-richness would cost more, but if you’re serious about buying one, we really liked this one.

NEXTBASE IQ SMART – Overview
Editor’s Choice
As feature-rich as dash cams go, the Nextbase iQ is a smart security camera for your vehicle. This premium solution, which comes in 1K, 2K, and 4K editions, has a suite of related talents. This includes GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity, parking assistance, a voice-activated Witness Mode, and the option to check in on your car using the Nextbase iQ app.
An internal camera is standard on all three models, and a rear-facing camera is an optional feature. To fully take advantage of its capabilities, a paid subscription is required, so the iQ can quickly add up in price.
However, our testing revealed that it’s also a really good one. In our review, setup was straightforward, and using the app’s numerous functions was a breeze. As expected, the audio and video from our 4K review unit were also quite good.
The system is powered solely by the vehicle’s battery, thus it is operational even when the engine is off. The Nextbase iQ is as smart as they get if you want a complete, all-in-one camera to watch your car at all times, yet it will be too much for many drivers.

GARMIN DASH CAM MINI 2 – Overview
The Garmin Mini 2 is so small that it can be hidden behind the rearview mirror of your vehicle. It records in Full HD at 30 frames per second with HDR despite its size. In our assessment, it provided video that was sufficiently sharp to identify important elements, like as registration plates, in every kind of weather or ambient light. In our experiments, we also discovered that installation was fast and easy.
Little space is taken up by the plastic arm on the windshield, and it is simple to adjust thanks to the ball-and-socket joint. The UI is equally user-friendly; despite the lack of a display, shortcut buttons enable one-touch recording of clips and microphone muting.
We discovered that you can quickly adjust settings, go through recordings, and verify the camera’s perspective with the Garmin Drive smartphone app (available for iOS and Android). Although the only features available are voice commands and a collision-detection g-sensor, we believed that GPS was the only significant missing feature.
The Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 will not disappoint unless you require the greatest dash cam with driver aid features. This technology is the epitome of set-and-forget—it’s unobtrusive, dependable, and easy to use.

- The five-star Nexar Pro is a wonderful alternative for heavy mileage drivers, being a dual-cam device that can record video both inside and outside a car. Although it is a little outdated at this point and can only record in 1080p rather than 4K, it comes with limitless cloud storage.
- The superb Thinkware X1000 is another alternative that stands out from the rest of the selection. Compared to other options, you don’t really need to rely on a companion app because of its larger touchscreen and user-friendly UI. It is available as a two-camera combo, however it is not GPS-enabled.
